As a 10/11 year old, I could never imagine going through the situations faced by Stanley in the book Holes. Going to a juvenile delinquent center, fending against mean and nasty adults who abuse kids and surviving the desolate desert while trying to escape isn't my cup of tea. I like my life as it is with my cozy home and supportive family and friends. Stanley on the other hand isn't as lucky. He's faced with all these horrific experiences and came out on top, showing resiliency and growing stronger as a character and a young boy.
